UHMW

Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMW) possesses extremely long molecular chains, which gives it great intermolecular strength. It is offered in several types and qualities, each presenting particular properties.

Attributes

  • Highly resistant to impact and wear
  • Resistant to corrosive chemicals and abrasion
  • Absorbs very little moisture
  • Impossible to bond and difficult to weld
  • Subject to thermal expansion
  • Different grades available such as recycled, TIVAR 88 and CERAM-P.

Typical applications

  • Applications for various markets such as: food, automotive, forestry and mining
  • Machinery components
  • Wear parts and strips
  • Conveying systems
  • Scrapers and slides

Purchasing options

  •  Sheets, rods or tubes of varying size and thickness

HDPE

Polyethylene High Density (HDPE) is obtained by coordinated polymerization. This provides a polyethylene  which is resistant to wear, maybe not as much as the UHMW, but more economical than the latter.

Attributes

  • Does not crush or break under high pressure
  • Chemical-resistant
  • High flexibility: thermoformable and weldable
  • Textured finish available

Typical applications

  • Tanks
  • Wear parts
  • Applications for various markets such as medical, food, industrial
  • Park installations
  • Nautical components

Purchasing options

  • Sheets: Thickness between 1/16 inch to 3 inches
  • Rods: Diameter between 1/4 inch and 6 inches
  • Colors: standard white or black and other colors available on request

Nylon

Nylon is a polyamide to which one can add to its composition various additives which will proffer to it particular capacities. It is a product that is very resistant to wear and compression. Therefore, it  is used in all sectors of industrial activity.

Attributes

  • Naturally very resistant to wear
  • Easily machinable
  • High liquid absorption coefficient, therefore no dynamic stability in the presence of liquid
  • Option of adding a liquid additive like oil, so it becomes self-lubricating (Nyloil)
  • Option of adding a solid additive such as molybdenum disulphide, so it becomes even more resistant to wear and compression (GSm Nylon, MD filled nylon or Nylatron)
  • Different grades available such as Nyloil (nylon oil filled), nylon MOS 2, natural nylon and Nyloil FG

Typical applications

  • Industrial parts subject to friction
  • Pulleys and gears
  • Applications for the production of components used in various markets such as: food, autmotive, manufacturing and forestry

Purchasing options

  • Sheets: different dimensions offered
  • Thickness: from 1/16 inch to 8 inches
  • Diameters: between 1/8 inch and 48 inches
  • Tubes: 2 inches to 48 inches in diameter (varied wall thickness)

Polypropylene (PP), also known as polypropene, is a thermoplastic polymer, similar in appearance to HDPE.

Attributes

  • Resistant to repetitive flexion
  • Excellent balance between its thermal, chemical and electrical properties
  • Impossible to rip
  • Breaking at low temperature (below freezing point)
  • Less UV resistant than HDPE

Typical applications

  • Molded part
  • Automotive: bumpers and vehicle cabin
  • Basins

Purchasing options

  • Sheets: rom 4  feet to 8 feet (various thickness options)
